Day 54 of the Bible in a Year - My Thoughts 02/23/2010
![]() 54 days down, 311 to go. Today’s scriptures for my Read the Bible in a Year plan are Leviticus 14:1-57; Mark 6:30-56; Psalms 40:1-10; Proverbs 10:11-12. My thoughts from today’s reading: 1. THE EVASIVE BALANCE OF WORKING AND WAITING 2. OBEDIENCE IS TRUE SACRIFICE 3. JESUS FEEDS 5,000 4. YOU GOT THAT MOLD? 1. THE EVASIVE BALANCE OF WORKING AND WAITING Psalm 40:1-2 1 I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. Part of obeying God, as discussed in number 1 above, waiting on His guidance and leading. This doesn’t mean that you sit on your butt and don’t do anything until a voice from heaven booms into your bedroom and tells you to go west with a brail version of the King James Bible. (Although, if this does happen, you better do it. Just ask Eli.) God has a purpose for each of us, something significant He has for us to do with our time on this earth. However, not only does He have a purpose for us, He also has a timeline. The conundrum that we usually found ourselves in, however, is that we often discover our purpose way before we learn God’s timeline for us to achieve it. ![]() 37 days down, 328 to go. Today’s scriptures for my Read the Bible in a Year plan are Exodus 23:14 – Exodus 25:40; Matthew 24:29 – 25:13; Psalms 30:1-12; Proverbs 7:24-27. Late getting this one up…but here we go. 1. SMASH THEIR SACRED PILLARS…OF PLURALIST HYPOCRISY 2. YOU’RE NOT READY TILL YOU’RE READY 3. WHAT ARE YOU HERE FOR? 4. MEN, ARE YOU CHASING DEATH? 1. SMASH THEIR SACRED PILLARS…OF PLURALIST HYPOCRISY In Exodus 23:20-27, God is telling the Israelites that when he takes them into the Promised land, there will be other people there with other gods. God says that He will run these people out of there, and the Israelites are not get too close to them, and they are definitely not to start serving their gods. In fact in Exodus 23:24, God says, "24 You must not worship the gods of these nations or serve them in any way or imitate their evil practices. Instead, you must utterly destroy them and smash their sacred pillars." I just thought this was a cool concept. Smash their pillars. It has a special relevance in this age. Day 35 of the Bible in a Year - My Thoughts 02/04/2010
![]() 35 days down, 330 to go. Today’s scriptures for my Read the Bible in a Year plan are Exodus 20:1 – Exodus 21:21; Psalms 27:7-14; Proverbs 7:1-5. I know some of these are out of order from yesterday, but it will be back in order tomorrow. So here we go. 1. THE GREATER THE SIN, THE LESS THE FEAR OF GOD 2. PATIENCE, BRAVERY AND COURAGE 3. SLAVERY IN THE BIBLE – QUITE A DOOZY 1. THE GREATER THE SIN, THE LESS THE FEAR OF GOD In Exodus 20, God is declaring His 10 Commandments from Mt. Sinai. The people at the base of the mountain can hear God’s thunderous voice and apparently feel the mountain literally shake from God’s presence. They become extremely frightened and later tell Moses, “Hey man. You talk to God and tell us what He said. We don’t want Him to talk to us, because we’ll die if He does.” Day 28 of the Bible in a Year - My Thoughts 01/28/2010
![]() 28 days down, 337 to go. Today’s scriptures for my Read the Bible in a Year plan are Exodus 5:22 – 7:25; Matthew 18:21 – 19:12; Psalms 23:1-6; Proverbs 5:22-23. Here are my thoughts on today’s readings. I much prefer doing this in the morning like now, than at night like yesterday. My mind has not yet been cluttered by all the minutiae of the day. 1. MOSES’ MOTHER WAS ALSO HIS GREAT AUNT 2. HOW MUCH WILL WE GO THROUGH FOR GOD 3. GOD WILL LEAD YOU TO VICTORY, BUT ON HIS TERMS 4. THE MATHEMATICS OF FORGIVENESS 5. THE MOST FAMOUS PSALM 1. MOSES’ MOTHER WAS ALSO HIS GREAT AUNT Nothing of particular great insight here, but a pretty interesting observation I think. Moses’ mother was also his great aunt. Check it out. Exodus 6:20 says: 20 Amram married his father's sister Jochebed, who bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years. EWW!!!! I know. Different time, different place….but still… | Robert Taylor I've been with SLW since late 1999, and I've been through my spiritual ups and downs. Come see. On this blog I'll just share my thoughts on some issues from time to time, trying not to ramble too much and to make it worth your read all at the same time. Wish me luck.
