Day 2 of the Bible in a Year - My Thoughts 01/02/2010
![]() Day 2 down. 363 to go. So scriptures for my Read the Bible in a Year plan were Genesis 3:1 – 4:26; Matthew 2:13 – 3:6; Psalms 2:1-12; Proverbs 1:7-9. Here are some of my thoughts. Psalms 2 – People confuse freedom with joy and fulfillment. We think that submitting ourselves to the authority of an omnipotent and omniscient God is somehow an infringement on our freedom, not knowing that only through surrendering our will to that of God, can we truly be fulfilled. For it is not really freedom that we seek, but joy. In our carnal minds, however, we think joy only comes from being free to do whatever we want, when we want, how we want. In short, human nature compels us to ourselves fill the God void that has been permanently entrenched into our souls by God Himself. We want to be God. I would go as far as to say that humans are not meant to be free, as we understand it today. We are meant to love God, and driven by love, give back to God the gift of freedom he has given us. For apart from God, we do not now what to do with our freedom, other than feast on sin’s poison. True joy and fulfillment comes only when we freely choose to be God’s slave. So in this light, Proverbs 1:7 makes total sense. The beginning of knowledge is the fear of the Lord, but fools despise this. Now for some thoughts on my Genesis readings for today. ![]() Day 1 down. 364 to go. So the scriptures for my Read the Bible in a Year plan today were Genesis 1:1 - 2:25; Matthew 1:1 - 2:12; Psalms 1:1-6; Proverbs 1:1-6. Here are some of my thoughts. In Genesis 1, the Holy Spirit moved upon a formless void world to create something wonderful. God can do the same with each of us. In fact, only God can make us something wonderful. In Genesis 2, God puts mankind in charge of nature. We are not meant to be one with nature. We are meant to be one with God, and nature is meant to be ruled by man. No this does not give man license to mean wastefully abuse nature, but it does mean that it is OK to use nature for our benefit. God created us in His image, not in the image of nature. So we are not one with nature. We are distinctly unique and better than any thing in nature. We are God’s agents on the earth. No other creature or thing can make this claim. It is a privilege, but also a responsibility. I’ll blog more about this later. Now for some of my thoughts on what I read in Genesis. | Robert Taylor I've been with SLW since late 1999, and I've been through my spiritual ups and downs. Come see. On this blog I'll just share my thoughts on some issues from time to time, trying not to ramble too much and to make it worth your read all at the same time. Wish me luck.
